(In Nigeria ) David Mark, Peter Obi, and Amaechi Launch ADC-Backed Opposition Coalition to Rival APC in 2027

A coalition of prominent opposition leaders, including former Senate President David Mark, Peter Obi, and Rotimi Amaechi, has captured significant attention in Nigeria after unveiling a new political alliance under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) at the Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja on July 1, 2025.

The group aims to challenge the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s dominance in the 2027 general elections, signaling a bold attempt to reshape Nigeria’s political landscape. David Mark, who recently resigned from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) after over 20 years, was named interim national chairman of the ADC-led coalition.

His defection from the PDP, a party he served as Senate President from 2007 to 2015, marks a significant shift in Nigeria’s political dynamics. Mark’s leadership role in the coalition reflects the opposition’s determination to forge a united front against the ruling APC.

The coalition’s decision to operate under the ADC provides an established platform while they await registration of a new party, the African Democratic Alliance (ADA), with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The involvement of high-profile figures like Obi, a former presidential candidate, and Amaechi, a former Rivers State governor, has sparked widespread discussion about the coalition’s potential to unify opposition forces and appeal to voters disillusioned with Nigeria’s major parties.

The launch has ignited debates across media and social platforms, with many viewing it as a pivotal step toward challenging the APC’s grip on power in 2027.
