(In Kenya) NACADA Clarifies Alcohol Policy: No Bans Enforced, Public Participation Underway

The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) has issued a clarification regarding widespread misinformation surrounding the launch of the National Policy for the Prevention, Management, and Control of Alcohol, Drugs, and Substance Abuse (2025).

It says contrary to media reports, no bans have been enforced on alcohol advertising, online sales, home deliveries, or celebrity endorsements.

According to NACADA, these are recommendations, not binding laws.

The authority explained that the policy is a roadmap for future reforms and not an enforcement tool.

It will undergo legal and regulatory reviews with active public participation.

The goal is to engage stakeholders across society to protect Kenyan youth from substance abuse, reduce harm, and build a healthier and more productive nation.

NACADA urges the media to report responsibly and avoid sensationalism.
