Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has addressed the long-standing mystery surrounding the discovery of over 30 unidentified bodies in Kenya’s River Yala.
Speaking in an interview with Citizen TV, Matiang’i revealed that during his tenure, the matter was escalated to the police leadership. However, investigations stalled due to the challenge of identifying the victims. He emphasized that the case file remained open even after his departure from office.

Matiang’i also spoke on other unresolved high-profile cases, including the 2017 murder of IEBC ICT Manager Chris Msando, as well as the deaths of businessman Jacob Juma and Sergeant Kipyegon Kenei.
He maintained that the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) never formally closed any of these files, and called for public inquests to uncover the truth. Matiang’i expressed his full willingness to testify before a judge if called upon, stating, “I am ready to appear and give my account for the sake of justice.
