Mt Kenya is making waves in the East African country because former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua responded to a Gen Z critic in the US who challenged his regional rhetoric.
Gachagua dismissed claims of tribalism, blaming President Ruto for engineering the narrative.
He defended his broad national support and insisted that standing with one's community shouldn't be vilified, urging youth not to feel ashamed of their ethnic identity.

Wanjiru Githae, a Gen Z activist from the 625 Movement, urged Gachagua to abandon ethnic politics if he hopes to rival Ruto in 2027.
She criticised his earlier remarks praising Kikuyus as Kenya's economic drivers, warning such claims breed division.
Emphasising national unity, Wanjiru cautioned that tribal identification fuels reciprocal bias, undermining cohesion.
Gachagua, however, maintained he has strong ties with all communities across Kenya.
