Former Arsenal player Thomas Partey has been charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault

The Metropolitan Police Service has formally charged Arsenal and Ghana international footballer Thomas Partey with multiple serious sexual offences. According to a statement released today, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) authorised the charges after reviewing evidence submitted by investigators. Partey, aged 32 and residing in Hertfordshire, has been charged with a total of five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, involving three separate women.

The breakdown of the charges includes two counts of rape related to one woman, three counts of rape related to a second woman, and one count of sexual assault concerning a third woman. The reported offences allegedly occurred between 2021 and 2022, and the investigation began in February 2022, when the police received the first formal complaint.

Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, whose unit is handling the investigation, emphasized the importance of supporting the survivors involved. He also invited anyone with further information to come forward and contact their team via email. The police remain focused on the victims and are encouraging members of the public who may have been affected by the case to reach out confidentially.

Thomas Partey has been summoned to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, August 5, where he is expected to respond to the charges.

This case marks a major development in a long-running investigation involving Thomas Partey, a high-profile Premier League footballer. The Met Police began their inquiries in early 2022, following an allegation of rape. As the investigation progressed, additional reports surfaced, ultimately involving three different women. The charges now reflect incidents that allegedly occurred over a one-year period between 2021 and 2022.

The police have highlighted the seriousness of the allegations and the meticulous nature of the investigation. By submitting a comprehensive file to the Crown Prosecution Service, detectives aimed to ensure that all legal steps were followed properly before formal charges were issued. The CPS reviewed the material and found enough evidence to proceed with prosecution.

The upcoming court appearance will be the first time Partey formally addresses the charges in public. The proceedings are expected to attract major media attention due to his public profile and status as a player for Arsenal and the Ghana national team.

Authorities have reiterated that the presumption of innocence applies until proven guilty in court. They’ve also urged media outlets and the public to respect the privacy of those involved, especially the alleged victims.

Anyone with information relevant to the case is encouraged to contact the dedicated investigation team directly via the email provided.
