Liverpool’s first-choice goalkeeper, Alisson Becker, has temporarily withdrawn from the club’s pre-season tour of Asia. His exit from the squad has been confirmed as due to personal reasons, though the club has not provided further details. According to reports from The Athletic, Alisson is expected to rejoin the team once they return to the UK.
He becomes the third Liverpool player to leave the pre-season camp early. Defender Joe Gomez has also returned home to receive treatment for an Achilles injury, while forward Luis Diaz is currently finalising a transfer to Bayern Munich.

Alisson didn’t play in Liverpool’s first friendly match in Asia, a 4-2 defeat against AC Milan in Hong Kong, and he won’t feature in the next game either. Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, a summer signing, will step in as the starting goalkeeper for the Reds’ upcoming clash with Yokohama FM on Wednesday.
Although Alisson has temporarily left the squad, he is expected to be back in time for Liverpool’s remaining pre-season matches. The club is set to play a home friendly against Athletic Club on August 4, and Alisson could be available for that fixture. Getting minutes before the new season starts is crucial, especially for a senior player like the 32-year-old goalkeeper.
After the friendly against Athletic Club, Liverpool’s first competitive match of the season comes in the Community Shield. They’ll face FA Cup winners Crystal Palace at Wembley Stadium on August 10. Just five days later, the Reds begin their Premier League title defence with a home game against Bournemouth.
Despite his brief absence, Alisson remains a key part of Arne Slot’s plans going into the 2025–26 campaign.
