Nigeria women’s head coach Justine Madugu has declared that the Super Falcons are fully prepared for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations final against host nation Morocco. The final will take place on Saturday night at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat. Nigeria is chasing a record-extending 10th WAFCON title, while Morocco hopes to win its first-ever continental crown. In a pre-match press conference, Madugu emphasized the mental and tactical readiness of his team. The coach, who has overseen a solid campaign so far, noted that his players are used to high-pressure situations. He stated that the final would be tough, but the team is ready both mentally and psychologically. Madugu said, “We are preparing very well in all aspects… and we are ready for any scenario that can occur.” He acknowledged that cup finals come with pressure but stressed that experience and preparation would be their edge. He also dismissed any fears about the intimidating Moroccan crowd, pointing out that the Super Falcons have played in similar or even more hostile environments before. He referenced Nigeria’s past match against Morocco, which was decided via penalties, as proof that the team knows what to expect. “We have played tough games and come through. This one will be no different.”

Coach Madugu also used the opportunity to clarify the role of star forward Asisat Oshoala, whose participation has been limited in recent matches despite being one of Nigeria’s most high-profile players. Oshoala scored earlier in the tournament but has not featured prominently since. Madugu dismissed suggestions that Oshoala has lost her place due to performance issues, explaining that squad decisions are based on tactical plans and current form. He emphasized that the team’s success is more important than individual appearances. “It’s a team thing, not about an individual,” he said. He praised Oshoala for her leadership and presence in the dressing room, stating she has been vital in motivating the younger players and helping them focus on the ultimate goal. According to him, her off-the-field influence has been significant throughout the tournament. “She has been fully supportive of everything we do,” Madugu said. The coach also hinted that Oshoala could still play a role in the final, depending on the match dynamics and tactical needs. “She is still relevant and could have a role to play on Saturday,” he stated. This approach reflects Nigeria’s depth and the coaching staff’s flexibility in using their resources. With a blend of youth and experience, the Super Falcons remain one of the most formidable teams on the continent. As they prepare for Saturday’s final, all eyes will be on how Madugu balances team unity, individual brilliance, and tactical precision to bring home the trophy once again.
