Canal+ Acquires MultiChoice in $3 Billion Deal, Commits to Boosting Local Content

 



French media conglomerate Canal+ Group has finalized the acquisition of MultiChoice in a landmark $3 billion agreement, securing full ownership of the African broadcaster’s popular satellite television platforms, DStv and GOtv.

As part of the deal, Canal+ has pledged an investment of R26 billion (approximately $1.4 billion) over the next three years. This commitment is aimed at enhancing local content production and preserving MultiChoice’s operational headquarters in South Africa, in alignment with South African regulatory requirements.





The acquisition marks a significant shift in Africa’s media landscape, as Canal+ expands its footprint across the continent through one of its most influential entertainment providers.
