Alexander Isak has reportedly agreed to personal terms with Liverpool, signaling a major development in the Premier League champions' summer transfer plans. The Swedish striker, currently with Newcastle United, has accepted a five-year contract offer from the Reds. Following this agreement, Liverpool are now set to approach Newcastle with an official opening bid. According to reports, this initial offer will be in the region of £100 million ($134m), though Newcastle currently value Isak at around £150m ($203m).
Despite the gap in valuation, Liverpool are confident they can convince the Magpies to accept a reduced fee possibly around £120m ($160m). The Reds are keen to bring in Isak as they look to reinforce their attacking options. This potential move follows Liverpool’s earlier marquee signing of French forward Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt for a significant sum. Their summer spending has already approached the £300 million mark.

Isak, known for his pace, skill, and finishing, has been a standout performer for Newcastle, and this transfer could mark a significant reshuffle in both clubs' plans. For Liverpool, the pursuit of Isak reflects new manager Arne Slot’s ambition to build a dynamic and potent frontline.
Liverpool’s pursuit of Alexander Isak comes amid a broader overhaul of the club’s attack. With the transfer of Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich nearly confirmed, the club has extra funds available and is actively seeking elite replacements. The signing of Hugo Ekitike earlier this summer signaled the start of this rebuild, and Isak now appears to be the next major target.
Additionally, reports suggest that Darwin Nunez could also leave Anfield. The Uruguayan striker has received strong interest from Serie A champions Napoli and several Saudi Pro League teams. If both Nunez and Diaz depart, Liverpool will need significant reinforcements, making the move for Isak all the more crucial.
Financially, Liverpool are in a strong position. The club has managed its budget to accommodate big-money signings while still complying with financial regulations. With the sales of key players, they have the capital to invest heavily in promising talents that fit Arne Slot’s system.
Slot’s squad is currently in Japan for their pre-season tour and will play a friendly against Yokohama F. Marinos on Wednesday. While negotiations continue behind the scenes, Liverpool’s sporting directors are expected to move swiftly to finalize the Isak transfer in the coming days.
If successful, the deal would not only weaken a domestic rival in Newcastle but also strengthen Liverpool’s chances of defending their Premier League title and making a deeper run in Europe. Isak’s arrival would bring additional flair, creativity, and goal-scoring ability qualities the team will need heading into a highly competitive season.
