Ajax Lower Asking Price as Chelsea Push to Sign Jorrel Hato

Ajax are reportedly ready to lower their asking price for highly rated defender Jorrel Hato as negotiations with Chelsea continue. Initially, Ajax demanded between €55 million and €60 million for the 19-year-old, but they are now open to accepting a package worth around €43 million to €45 million. Although the club's director, Alex Kroes, still prefers a minimum of €50 million, he is now willing to compromise due to market realities.

The reason behind this shift is partly due to Ajax’s concern that no other club will be willing to meet even a €40 million valuation for Hato as the transfer window progresses. As the window moves closer to its final weeks, clubs tend to focus more on last-minute deals and bargain options. With that in mind, Ajax do not want to lose out entirely, especially as Chelsea remain the only club seriously pursuing the young defender.

Additionally, Ajax are mindful of Hato’s preference. The player is reportedly keen on joining Chelsea, and the Amsterdam-based club want to honour his wishes. Ajax value their relationship with their top talents and prefer to maintain a positive image when it comes to helping their players take the next step in their careers. This attitude has led to a more flexible negotiating stance, even if it means accepting a slightly lower fee than originally hoped.

Chelsea have taken a firm stance in their pursuit of Ajax defender Jorrel Hato. The Premier League club began with an opening bid of €40 million, which was quickly followed by a slightly improved €41 million offer. Despite Ajax’s initial asking price of €55–60 million, Chelsea have refused to increase their bid further and are holding their position, confident that Ajax may eventually accept the offer.

Reports indicate that Chelsea and Hato have already reached a full personal agreement. The 19-year-old left-footed centre-back has agreed to sign a long-term 8-year contract with the London club, signaling his commitment and desire to join. The agreement between player and club strengthens Chelsea’s negotiating position, as Hato’s preference could pressure Ajax into finalizing the transfer.

Chelsea’s interest in Hato is part of their broader strategy of investing in young talent with long-term potential. Hato, who is already under contract at Ajax until 2028, is seen as a key defensive asset who could develop into a top-tier player in the coming years. His ability to play on the left side of a back line adds a unique value to Chelsea’s squad, especially as they continue to reshape their defense for the future.

Despite the minor gap between the two clubs’ valuations, Chelsea are optimistic that Ajax will agree to the deal soon. With no serious competition from other clubs and Hato’s eagerness to make the move, the two parties may be edging closer to a resolution that benefits all involved. A final agreement now seems more likely as both sides inch toward middle ground.
