UEFA block latest Crystal Palace proposal to put Europa League spot in jeapordy Crystal Palace’s participation in the upcoming Europa League season is in jeopardy after UEFA rejected their proposal to address concerns over multi-club ownership. The issue centers on co-owners John Textor and David Blitzer, whose stakes in other European clubs conflict with UEFA regulations. Textor, who holds a 45% stake in Palace, is the majority owner of Lyon, a French club also qualified for the Europa League. Blitzer owns Brøndby, a Danish club competing in the UEFA Conference League, which prevents Palace from dropping to that competition as an alternative. UEFA rules prohibit individuals from holding control or influence over multiple clubs in the same competition. Palace’s proposal to place Textor and Blitzer’s shares in a blind trust was intended to comply with these regulations, but UEFA deemed it insufficient. The club missed a March 1 deadline for ownership changes, complicating their case. Palace argues that Textor’s 25% voting rights, shared equally with three other co-owners, and his lack of operational control at Selhurst Park satisfy UEFA’s requirements. However, Textor’s involvement in appointing manager Oliver Glasner could undermine this claim, as it suggests influence over club decisions. A final ruling is expected in June, and if UEFA rules against Palace, they could lose their Europa League spot to Nottingham Forest, the next eligible Premier League team. This would also shift Forest’s Conference League place to Brighton. The situation highlights the complexities of multi-club ownership in European football, with Palace’s European ambitions hanging in the balance. Fans await clarity as the club navigates this unprecedented challenge, hoping to secure their place in Europe’s second-tier competition after a strong domestic campaign.
