Trump: Putin Confirmed Russia Will Respond to Ukraine Drone Attacks

Trump: Putin Confirmed Russia Will Respond to Ukraine Drone Attacks U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin told him during a telephone call on Wednesday that Moscow would have to respond to recent Ukrainian drone attacks. Trump stated that the two leaders discussed the attack on Russia’s docked airplanes by Ukraine, as well as other recent attacks by both sides. According to Trump, Putin “very strongly” indicated that Russia would respond to the recent attack on its airfields. Trump described their conversation as “good,” but clarified that it would not lead to immediate peace.

Moscow earlier indicated that military responses were “on the table” for retaliating against Ukrainian attacks deep inside Russia, accusing the West, including the U.S. and Britain, of involvement. Both Western countries denied prior knowledge of the recent strikes on Russian nuclear-capable bombers. In addition to Ukraine, Trump and Putin reportedly discussed Iran, with Putin suggesting he might participate in talks to reach a new nuclear deal with Tehran. Trump echoed the U.S. stance that Iran “cannot have a nuclear weapon” and expressed frustration with Iran's slow progress in negotiations.
