Trump Open to Extending July 8 Trade Negotiation Deadline U.S. President Donald Trump indicated on Wednesday that he would be willing to extend the July 8 deadline for completing trade talks with various countries to avoid higher U.S. tariffs. However, he expressed the view that an extension might not be necessary.
Trump mentioned that negotiations are ongoing with about 15 countries, including South Korea, Japan, and the European Union. He also stated that the U.S. plans to send letters within the next one to two weeks outlining trade deal terms to dozens of other nations, who can then decide whether to accept or reject the proposals.
