South Africans are intensifying calls for the resignation or dismissal of Shamila Batohi, the National Director of Public Prosecutions, citing ongoing allegations of incompetence. The uproar, trending across social media, follows a recent Free State High Court ruling that declared the extradition of Moroadi Cholota from the United States to South Africa unlawful.
In his judgment, Judge Philip Loubser stated that the legal procedures required to bring Cholota back to the country were not properly followed. Cholota, the former personal assistant to ex-Free State Premier Ace Magashule, faces charges in a fraud and corruption case linked to a failed R255-million project aimed at removing asbestos roofing from low-income homes in Bloemfontein.
