Russia Vows to Respond to Ukrainian Attacks as It Sees Fit

Russia Vows to Respond to Ukrainian Attacks as It Sees Fit Russia announced on Thursday that it will retaliate to Ukrainian attacks whenever it deems appropriate, accusing Kyiv of engaging in state terrorism. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that President Vladimir Putin told Donald Trump that Moscow is obliged to respond to recent Ukrainian drone strikes and sabotage on Russian territory. Ukrainian forces reportedly targeted Russian airbases in Siberia and the far north with drone strikes, and Russia accused Ukraine of blowing up rail bridges in the south, leading to casualties. Kyiv has not acknowledged responsibility for the attacks.

Peskov emphasized that Putin regards the Kyiv regime as a terrorist organization and that the escalation has complicated peace efforts, although Putin and the Ukrainian side have resumed some contacts in Turkey. Peskov also clarified that Putin did not discuss the possibility of a face-to-face meeting with Trump or lifting sanctions during their recent conversation. The conflict continues to escalate, with ongoing attacks damaging prospects for peace negotiations.
