President Trump Announces US Travel Ban on 12 Countries and Restrictions on 7 Others

President Trump Announces US Travel Ban on 12 Countries and Restrictions on 7 Others President Donald Trump has signed an executive order implementing a full travel ban on citizens from 12 countries, including Afghanistan, Chad, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Myanmar, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen. Additionally, the order restricts travelers from Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela. The ban takes effect on Monday, June 9, 2025, at 12:01 a.m. Washington time. Visas issued before this deadline will remain valid. Trump stated the measure aims to protect U.S. national security and prevent threats from unvetted foreign nationals, especially following attacks like the recent pro-Israel rally shooting in Boulder, Colorado.

The order builds on earlier travel bans issued during Trump’s first term, which targeted primarily Muslim-majority countries. It also includes new restrictions on foreign nationals seeking to study or participate in exchange programs at Harvard University, citing concerns over the university’s foreign ties and radicalism. This move reflects Trump’s ongoing stance on tightening immigration and vetting procedures to protect American citizens from potential threats.
