In 1999, while Manchester United were conquering Europe with the first English treble, Manchester City were battling in England’s third division.

Fast forward 24 years, and the roles were reversed. City completed the second-ever English treble, a testament to their remarkable rise and dominance under Pep Guardiola.

Manchester City made history on June 10, 2023, by winning the UEFA Champions League for the first time, completing a historic treble. The English club defeated Inter Milan 1-0 in the final, adding European glory to their Premier League and FA Cup triumphs earlier in the season. This achievement made Manchester City only the second English team to secure the treble, following in the footsteps of Manchester United in 1999.

Remarkably, in the same year United were lifting three major trophies, City were competing in the third tier of English football. Just 24 years later, they joined their rivals in one of the most exclusive clubs in football history, showcasing a remarkable transformation.

The treble was also a personal milestone for manager Pep Guardiola. With this triumph, Guardiola became the first manager in European football to win the treble twice and with two different clubs. His first treble came in 2009 with Barcelona, when he led the Spanish giants to La Liga, Copa del Rey, and Champions League success in his debut season as a senior coach.
