Kenyan Police Officer Arrested Over Shooting of Mask Vendor During Protest

 


A disturbing incident in Nairobi has sparked widespread outrage and put the National Police Service (NPS) under scrutiny. A police officer was filmed shooting an unarmed mask vendor during a protest on Moi Avenue, The officer used an anti-riot shotgun and has since been arrested.

This has sparked outrage across East Africa, with calls for accountability and justice echoing in Kenya and neighbouring countries.

The National Police Service has condemned the officer’s actions and confirmed his immediate arrest. The victim is receiving treatment. Protesters were seen wielding crude weapons, prompting a police response. 

Meanwhile, civil rights group Inuka Kenya Ni Sisi! has issued six demands, including the resignation of IG Japhet Koome, prosecution of implicated officers, and an independent investigation.
