Iran says nuclear talks with US 'meaningless' after Israel attack

Iran says nuclear talks with US 'meaningless' after Israel attack Iran stated on Friday that negotiations with the United States over its nuclear program are now "meaningless" following Israel’s largest-ever military strike against Iran, accusing Washington of supporting the attack. The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baghaei, told semi-official Tasnim News Agency that the U.S. actions have undermined the diplomatic process, claiming that Israel’s attack would not have occurred without Washington’s permission. He criticized the U.S. for acting in a way that divides efforts and hampers meaningful dialogue, suggesting that the U.S. is complicit through its support for Israel’s military actions.

Iran previously accused the U.S. of being involved in the attacks, but Washington denied the allegations and told the United Nations Security Council that it would be “wise” for Iran to negotiate over its nuclear program. The sixth round of U.S.-Iran nuclear talks was scheduled to take place this Sunday in Muscat; however, it remains uncertain whether they will proceed in light of recent Israeli strikes. Iran maintains that its uranium enrichment activities are solely for civilian purposes and rejects Israeli accusations that it is clandestinely developing nuclear weapons. Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump told the press that his team was aware of the Israeli operation beforehand but expressed hope that a diplomatic resolution could still be possible, indicating a cautious openness to negotiations despite the recent escalation.
