Iran Condemns U.S. Travel Ban, Says It Reflects 'Deep Hostility' Toward Iranians and Muslims Iran on Saturday strongly criticized the United States' decision to impose a travel ban on citizens from 12 countries, including Iran. Tehran described the move as a sign of "deep hostility" toward Iranians and Muslims. A senior Iranian foreign ministry official accused the U.S. of discriminating based on religion and nationality, stating that the ban not only demonstrates hostility but also violates international law. The official’s comments were published on the ministry’s social media platform, X.
The U.S. announced on Wednesday that starting Monday at 12:01 a.m. EDT (0401 GMT), travelers from 12 countries will be barred entry into the United States. The countries included are Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, the Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen. U.S. President Donald Trump justified the ban as a measure to protect against "foreign terrorists." This move echoes a similar policy he implemented during his first term (2017-2021), which barred travelers from seven predominantly Muslim countries. Iran's foreign ministry condemned the ban as discriminatory and harmful, asserting it undermines international norms and respects neither human rights nor diplomatic relations.
