Operation Dudula, a controversial anti-migrant group in South Africa, faces a legal battle in the Johannesburg High Court, initiated by Kopanang Africa Against Xenophobia (KAAX). The NGO is seeking an injunction to stop the group from harassing and assaulting foreign nationals, including forcing people to show IDs and shutting down foreign-owned shops.

The case, which began hearings on June 10, 2025, also targets the Department of Home Affairs and South African Police Service for allegedly failing to protect vulnerable communities. KAAX, supported by human rights groups, accuses Operation Dudula of xenophobic conduct, such as disrupting access to healthcare and schools.
The NGO also challenges parts of the Immigration Act enabling warrantless searches. Operation Dudula denies the allegations, claiming lawful actions against undocumented migrants. The high-profile case, trending across South Africa, could redefine protections against xenophobia
