(In Nigeria) President Tinubu Honors Bayo Onanuga with CON Award for Decades of Journalism and Public Service on Democracy Day

 

Bayo Onanuga is garnering significant attention in Nigeria following President Bola Tinubu’s decision to confer upon him the prestigious national honor of Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON). The recognition was announced during the Democracy Day celebrations on June 12, 2025, in acknowledgment of Onanuga’s extensive contributions to journalism, media development, and public communication over four decades. As a veteran journalist and current presidential adviser, Onanuga has left an indelible mark on both the media landscape and government service.

Born on June 20, 1957, in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, Onanuga graduated with a degree in Mass Communication from the University of Lagos. He co-founded TheNews magazine and served as editor-in-chief of PM News, earning a reputation for fearless investigative journalism. Additionally, he held the position of Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) and now serves as a key adviser to President Tinubu. His career, spanning investigative reporting, political communication, and public service, has solidified his legacy as a pivotal figure in Nigeria’s media and governance spheres.
