The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is under public scrutiny following its decision to extend the service year of corps member Rita Ushie popularly known on social media as Raye by two months as disciplinary action for a viral video posted in March 2025.
In the video, Raye expressed frustration over the rising cost of living in Lagos and the broader economic challenges facing young Nigerians, particularly under the Tinubu administration. Her outspoken remarks sparked mixed reactions, drawing threats from NYSC officials who demanded that the video be taken down.

The NYSC's response prompted widespread backlash, especially among young Nigerians. In solidarity, many participated in a viral social media trend tagged the #30DayRantChallenge, emulating Raye’s candid style to share their own grievances.
Notably, the public pressure following Raye’s video has been credited with pushing the Federal Government to implement a long-awaited increase in the monthly NYSC allowance from ₦33,000 to ₦77,000 a promise that had remained unfulfilled for nearly two years.
