(In Nigeria) Fubara Meets Tinubu: Rivers State Crisis Takes New Turn

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has been making waves in Nigeria after a high-profile meeting with President Bola Tinubu in Lagos on Tuesday.

His visit comes amid a political crisis in the state following his suspension and the appointment of a sole administrator. The meeting signals potential reconciliation efforts or a negotiated resolution, drawing national attention to the evolving power struggle in one of Nigeria’s most politically sensitive states.

In March 2025, President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, suspending Governor Fubara, his deputy, and lawmakers over alleged threats to national assets.

The move was widely criticised as undemocratic. Fubara, however, later expressed gratitude to the president for preventing anarchy.  His recent appearance in Lagos suggests backchannel talks may be underway to resolve the political impasse and restore elected leadership.
