Namadi Sambo, Nigeria’s former vice president, has become the focus of widespread discussion across the country due to swirling rumors suggesting he planned to defect from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The speculation originated from a social media post by Imran Muhammad, a prominent APC figure in Kaduna State, who claimed that Sambo, a key political figure from the state, had decided to join the APC. The post, which quickly gained traction, sparked intense debate among Nigerians, given Sambo’s stature as a former vice president under President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration from 2010 to 2015.

In response, Umar Sani, Sambo’s Senior Special Adviser, issued a strongly worded press release on June 18, 2025, debunking the claims. Sani described the rumors as “entirely false and without any basis,” emphasizing that Sambo remains steadfastly committed to the PDP, where he has been a loyal member for decades. The statement aimed to put an end to the misinformation, which Sani suggested was spread to create confusion and undermine Sambo’s political legacy. He reiterated that the former vice president, known for his quiet but influential role in Nigerian politics, has no intention of aligning with the APC or abandoning his party’s principles.
