(In Nigeria) 32-year-old Gospel Singer Oluwatimilleyin Ajayi Sentenced to Death By Hanging for Horrific Murder of Salome Eleojo Aidadu

Oluwatimilleyin Ajayi, a 32-year-old gospel singer, has been sentenced to death by hanging by a Nassarawa State High Court in Lafia for the horrific murder of Salome Eleojo Aidadu, a 24-year-old National Youth Service Corps member.

The ruling, delivered by Justice Simon Aboki on June 26, 2025, nearly six months after Ajayi’s arrest, convicted him on one count of culpable homicide under Section 221 of the Penal Code of Northern Nigeria. The case, marked by its brutality, has stunned communities across Nigeria, given Ajayi’s public persona as a gospel artist. On January 12, 2025, authorities apprehended Ajayi at an uncompleted building in Lafia, where he was caught attempting to dispose of Salome’s severed head. The gruesome discovery sent shockwaves through the region.

A subsequent search by law enforcement uncovered additional dismembered parts of Salome’s body, along with the bloodied machete used to perpetrate the crime. These findings provided irrefutable evidence of Ajayi’s guilt, painting a chilling picture of a calculated and violent act. The trial revealed the extent of the betrayal, as Salome, a young woman serving her country, became the victim of such a heinous crime.

Justice Aboki’s verdict underscores Nigeria’s firm stance against violent crimes, aiming to deliver justice for Salome and her grieving family. The case has sparked widespread discussions about safety and trust, leaving a lasting impact on the nation.
