During anti-government protests on June 25, 2025, 7,000 bags of subsidised fertiliser were looted from the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) depot in Maua, Meru County. Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe labeled the theft a direct attack on Kenya’s food security, disrupting critical support for farmers during the planting season.
He pledged to work with security agencies to recover the stolen supplies and bring culprits to justice, warning that such acts harm innocent citizens and undermine long-term agricultural stability. Kagwe emphasized that political protests must not target essential resources. The government is now strengthening security at NCPB depots to protect vital infrastructure, ensuring the uninterrupted distribution of farming inputs to safeguard Kenya’s food production and support farmers nationwide.
