Asaase Radio has resumed operations in Ghana after being shut down by the National Communications Authority (NCA) due to regulatory issues. The radio station was one of 62 media outlets closed for non-compliance. However, following intervention by President John Dramani Mahama, the station was allowed to reopen.
Earlier today, the NCA suspended these stations for violations ranging from expired authorisations to unpaid licence fees as well as an inability to abide by conditions stipulated in The Electronic Communications Act.
The shutdown of Asaase Radio received special attention because the station is expected to celebrate its 5th anniversary on Saturday, June 14.
President John Dramani Mahama has issued a directive demanding that the broadcast license all of the affected radio stations be restored with immediate effect.
