How to manage ulcer

 



1. Medications (Doctor Prescribed Only!)

*Antibiotics – If caused by H. pylori infection

*PPIs (e.g. Omeprazole) – Reduce stomach acid

*Antacids – For quick relief

Protective meds (e.g. Sucralfate) – Coat the ulcer

Always take ulcer drugs regularly and don’t stop halfway!



2. What to Eat

Eat more of:

Oatmeal, rice, unripe plantain

Pap, bananas, apples

Boiled yam, soft vegetables

Fish/chicken (boiled or grilled)

Yogurt (if it doesn't worsen your symptoms)


Avoid:

Peppery & spicy food

Fried foods

Garri (can trigger pain)

Coke, Fanta, coffee

Oranges, pineapple, alcohol


 3. Meal Habits

Don’t skip meals 

Eat small portions 5–6 times a day 

Don’t lie down right after eating.

Eat your last meal 2–3 hours before bed


 4. Lifestyle Tips

Stop smoking 

Reduce stress 

Sleep well 

Drink enough water (but not too much with meals)


Go to the hospital if you:

Vomit blood

Have black, tarry stool

Feel sudden severe stomach pain

Keep losing weight
