Sergio “Kun” Aguero, born June 2, 1988, in Buenos Aires, is a football icon, celebrated on his 37th birthday in 2025. Manchester City’s all-time top scorer with 260 goals in 390 games, he holds the Premier League record for most hat-tricks (12) and is the highest-scoring overseas player with 184 goals. His 93:20 goal against QPR in 2012, securing City’s first Premier League title in 44 years, remains the competition’s most iconic moment.
Aguero’s career began at Independiente, where he debuted at 15, breaking Diego Maradona’s record as the youngest Argentine Primera División player. Moving to Atletico Madrid in 2006 for €23 million, he scored 101 goals and won the 2010 UEFA Europa League. Joining City in 2011 for £38 million, he won five Premier Leagues, one FA Cup, and three League Cups.
Fun facts: Aguero’s nickname “Kun” comes from the Japanese cartoon Kum-Kum, inspired by his grandfather. A Liverpool fan growing up, he nearly joined them before Atletico. He scored five goals in a single 2015 Premier League game against Newcastle, a rare feat. Off the pitch, he’s a Dragon Ball Z enthusiast, fluent in Spanish, English, and Italian, and supports the Miami Heat in the NBA. His son, Benjamin, is Maradona’s grandson, and Lionel Messi is his best friend and Benjamin’s godfather.
Aguero’s philanthropy includes supporting UNICEF and the Manchester City Foundation. Despite retiring in 2021 at 33 due to a heart condition after a brief Barcelona stint, his legacy endures. Fans on X lauded his 426 career goals and 20+ trophies, cementing his status as one of Argentina’s greatest strikers.
