Hamas says Iran 'paying the price' for supporting Gaza militants The Palestinian Islamist group Hamas has asserted that Iran, its strategic ally, is "paying the price" for backing militant groups in Gaza amid ongoing conflicts with Israel. This statement comes in the context of recent large-scale Israeli strikes on Iran, targeting military and nuclear facilities, which Israel claims are part of its effort to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons. Hamas leaders have publicly acknowledged Iran’s military and financial support during their longstanding resistance against Israel, including during the recent escalation that began in October 2023. In a statement, Hamas emphasized that Iran’s steadfast stance in support of Palestine and resistance is leading Tehran to face the consequences of its support, asserting that Iran’s independent national decision-making is being tested.

Additionally, Tehran has promised retaliation against Israel for its early morning attack that resulted in the deaths of several top Iranian military and nuclear officials. Israel reported trying to intercept about 100 drones launched by Iran, although none managed to reach Israeli territory. Hamas spokesperson Abu Ubaida, referring to Iran, reiterated their support, stating on Telegram that Hamas would stand by Iran in its conflict against Israel. He emphasized that Israel’s recent actions are mistaken strategies that will only accelerate its decline, reinforcing Hamas’s position that they and Iran support resistance against Israeli aggression.
