Dumsor Levy: Ghana's Finance Minister Faces Backlash Over New Bill

Ghana's Energy Sector Levy Amendment Bill has sparked widespread discussion, with the term "Dumsor Levy" making waves online. The bill, introduced by Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, aims to amend existing energy sector levies.

Speaking to Parliament, the minister revealed that the bill aims to address financial challenges in the country's energy sector by raising funds to cover different kinds of indebtedness.

Netizens have expressed outrage and disbelief at the newly introduced bill by stating that they feel defrauded by the John Dramani Mahama government.

The feeling of outrage stems from the fact that the current administration previously gave a great deal of publicity to earlier announcements of the cancellations of several levies (such as e-levy and betting tax) imposed on Ghanaians by the Nana Akufo-Addo government.
