Concerns mount over Kenya’s stadium security as CHAN 2025 nears! CAF flags issues at Nyayo Stadium after fans broke gates during a recent match.
Kenya faces growing concerns over stadium security and infrastructure as it prepares to co-host the African Nations Championship (CHAN) in August 2025 with Tanzania and Uganda. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has highlighted significant issues at Nairobi’s Nyayo National Stadium and Moi International Sports Centre (Kasarani), the two venues designated for the tournament. These concerns threaten Kenya’s ability to meet CAF’s standards for hosting the continental event, which features domestic-based players. At Nyayo Stadium, a major security breach occurred during a March 2025 World Cup qualifier against Gabon, when fans forcibly entered by breaking a gate. CAF described the incident as understandable due to Kenya’s nearly two-year hiatus from hosting international matches but stressed it was unacceptable. The stadium requires critical upgrades, including a perimeter wall, turnstile systems for better crowd management, improved floodlights, and enhanced pitch moisture control. CAF has expressed doubts about Nyayo’s readiness, urging swift action. Kasarani Stadium, Kenya’s largest venue, also faces challenges. Ongoing renovations, including a partially completed canopy and a lagging sound system, are behind schedule. These deficiencies raise concerns about meeting CAF’s stringent requirements for CHAN. Kenya’s history of security lapses at football venues, combined with logistical issues like traffic congestion around Kasarani, further complicates preparations. The Sports Ministry and Football Kenya Federation are under pressure to address these gaps before CAF’s next inspection. Failure to comply could jeopardize Kenya’s hosting role. With only months remaining, stakeholders must prioritize security enhancements and infrastructure upgrades to ensure a safe and successful tournament, reinforcing Kenya’s reputation as a capable host on the African stage.See also: Real Madrid's Asencio not yet out of the water, faces 4 YEARS in prison over s*x video scandal
