Club World Cup: Who will qualified teams face in last 16?

 

The group stage of the Club World Cup is over and 16 teams have now advanced to the knockout rounds. The top two teams from each of the eight groups earned qualification, with head-to-head record used as the first tiebreaker before goal difference. Group A saw Palmeiras and Inter Miami qualify after a dramatic 2-2 draw between them. Porto and Al Ahly were eliminated after a high-scoring 4-4 result. Flamengo won Group D, having earlier beaten Chelsea. Boca Juniors and Auckland City were eliminated. Group E saw Inter Milan finish first after defeating River Plate, with Monterrey also making it through after thrashing Urawa Reds. From Group F, Borussia Dortmund and Fluminense advanced, with Dortmund narrowly beating Ulsan.


With the group phase done, the knockout stage for the Club World Cup is set. Manchester City were the only side to finish with a perfect record and will face Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal, who came second in Group H behind Real Madrid. Chelsea set up a highly anticipated clash against Benfica after securing second spot in Group D. Real Madrid, after a 3-0 win over RB Salzburg, advanced as Group H winners and will now face Juventus in what promises to be a European heavyweight showdown. In the all-Brazilian clash, Palmeiras will meet Botafogo in the first last sixteen tie on 28 June. That same day, Chelsea and Benfica face off in a key battle between historic European clubs. On 29 June, Paris Saint Germain take on Inter Miami in a glamorous fixture that will feature Lionel Messi against top European talent. Flamengo will play Bayern Munich in another huge encounter. Inter Milan and Fluminense clash on 30 June, while early morning action on 1 July will see Manchester City play Al Hilal. Later that evening, Real Madrid face Juventus. The final round of 16 match is on 2 July, where Borussia Dortmund meet Monterrey. With major clubs from Europe and South America still in the race, the knockout rounds promise drama, goals, and unforgettable moments.
