WHO Reports Critical Shortage of Medical Supplies in Gaza: Stock Zero for Majority of Equipment and Medicines
The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced a severe shortage of medical supplies and essential medicines in Gaza, describing the situation as critical. Nearly 64% of medical equipment and 43% of basic medicines, including vaccines, are now at "stock zero," meaning no supplies are available.
WHO Regional Director Hanan Balkhy highlighted the dire circumstances within Gaza’s hospitals, which lack vital items such as anesthesia, IV fluids, needles, and bandages. This shortage is severely impacting the ability of healthcare workers to treat the injured and sick amid ongoing conflict.

Currently, 51 aid trucks are waiting at the Gaza border but have not been granted clearance to enter the region. Although Israel recently eased some aspects of the blockade, supplies remain restricted, further exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Balkhy also stated that the WHO will not participate in a proposed U.S.-backed aid plan, citing concerns over impartiality and security risks. The situation underscores the urgent need for increased and neutral humanitarian assistance to prevent further deterioration of Gaza’s already fragile health system.
