Britain on Friday announced a new package of sanctions targeting Russia, including asset freezes on several directors of the oil trading company Coral Energy Group, now known as 2Rivers Group. The sanctions are part of an effort to apply economic pressure on Russia and limit its access to international markets amidst ongoing geopolitical tensions.
The broader context of the sanctions includes targeting approximately 100 Russian oil tankers associated with Russia’s so-called shadow fleet. The announcement coincided with a meeting of leaders from the Northern Europe’s Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) security alliance in Norway, highlighting the geopolitical importance of these measures.
The UK government listed the following individuals for sanctions: Ahmed Kerimov, Tahir Garayev, Anar Madatli, Talat Safarov, and Etibar Eyyub. The authorities stated that these individuals have been involved in obtaining a benefit from or supporting the government of Russia" through their roles as directors of Coral Energy Group.
