Taiwan Accuses China of Provocative Actions and Ignoring Peace Offers

Taiwan Accuses China of Provocative Actions and Ignoring Peace Offers China is intensifying its "extreme pressure" campaign against Taiwan, deliberately dismissing the island's efforts at diplomacy and goodwill, according to Taiwan’s top China policy official. Mainland Affairs Council Minister Chiu Chui-cheng told Reuters that Beijing is responsible for escalating tensions through almost daily military incursions and aggressive political influence. China views Taiwan as part of its territory and has increased military exercises and threats, including calling President Lai Ching-te a dangerous "separatist" and threatening harsh penalties for supporters of Taiwan’s independence. Chiu emphasized that Taiwan remains committed to peaceful dialogue based on equality and respect, but without Beijing's political preconditions. He criticized China’s ongoing actions, comparing the reportings of separatist activity to the chaos during China’s Cultural Revolution, and highlighted the fear caused among Taiwanese business communities due to Beijing’s tactics. Despite Taiwan’s offers for peace, China continues to dismiss such gestures, claiming Taiwan is part of China and asserting that any moves toward independence threaten regional stability.

Taiwan’s officials regard China’s recent actions as hostile and escalatory, with the mainland stepping up war games and political pressure since President Lai declared China a "foreign hostile force." The situation remains tense, with Taiwan seeking to balance firmness in its defense while advocating for peaceful dialogue without succumbing to Beijing’s demands.
