Sweden to Summon Israeli Ambassador Over Gaza Humanitarian Aid
Sweden’s foreign ministry announced it will summon Israel’s ambassador in Stockholm to protest the limited humanitarian aid reaching Gaza. Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson stated that recent aid deliveries, amounting to only a few hundred trucks, fall far short of the needs of Gaza’s two million residents who face the threat of famine after nearly three months of blockade.
Kristersson emphasized the importance of diplomatic pressure and called on the European Union to impose sanctions on Israel to ensure better access for humanitarian aid. He highlighted that increased international and regional efforts are necessary to alleviate the dire situation in Gaza, where widespread malnutrition has become a critical concern.
Israel has recently allowed a small number of aid trucks into Gaza amid ongoing conflict following Hamas’s attack on October 7, 2023. The conflict has resulted in over 53,900 Palestinian deaths, according to Gaza health authorities, and the displacement of thousands, further worsening the humanitarian crisis.
