Russia Launches Massive Attack on Kyiv, Injuring 15

Russia Launches Massive Attack on Kyiv, Injuring 15 Russia conducted one of its largest combined aerial assaults on Kyiv in three years, involving dozens of attack drones and ballistic missiles. The bombardment damaged multiple apartment buildings and injured 15 people, according to Ukrainian officials. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy described the night as particularly intense and called for renewed international sanctions to pressure Moscow into a ceasefire. Witnesses reported successive waves of drones over Kyiv, with explosions and anti-aircraft defenses active throughout the night. Photos showed fires and smoke rising from damaged buildings. Damage was reported across six districts of Kyiv, with the worst affected being the Obolon district, where residents, including children, sought shelter after their homes were hit. One resident, Olha Kalina, found her children sheltering in a nearby underground car park following their apartment catching fire.

Both Ukraine and Russia announced they would engage in new peace talks, following a recent prisoner exchange, but ongoing accusations and hostilities cast doubt on the prospects for immediate peace. Ukraine’s military confirmed firing 14 ballistic missiles and over 250 long-range drones at targets across the country, primarily targeting Kyiv.

The escalation occurs amid ongoing exchanges of drone attacks between Ukraine and Russia, with Russia vowing retaliation for recent Ukrainian strikes inside Russia, including Moscow.
