Russia and Ukraine Conduct Largest Prisoner Exchange Since War Began Russia and Ukraine finalized a historic swap on Sunday, exchanging 1,000 prisoners each, marking the largest such exchange since the conflict began three years ago. The three-day process, which started on Friday, involved the release of mostly prisoners of war, along with 120 civilians from each side. On Sunday, both sides exchanged 303 prisoners. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized that the exchanged detainees included members of Ukraine’s armed forces, the National Guard, border guard service, and special transport service, many of whom are returning home.
