Putin and Trump Exchanged World War Two Anniversary Greetings via Aides, Kremlin Says

 



Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump communicated their congratulations to each other through their aides on the 80th anniversary of the Soviet and Allied victory in World War Two over Nazi Germany, the Kremlin announced on Friday.


Yuri Ushakov, Putin’s foreign policy adviser, told state TV’s Channel One that the exchanges were characterized by “warm words and mutual congratulations" on their shared history and the significance of the celebration.

Russia commemorated the anniversary with a grand military parade on Moscow’s Red Square, attended by numerous world leaders, including Chinese President Xi Jinping. 


The TASS state news agency reported that Lynne Tracy, the U.S. ambassador to Russia, was not present at the parade, highlighting the complex diplomatic atmosphere despite the anniversary’s unifying significance.
