Putin Agrees With Trump to Work With Ukraine On Memorandum On Possible Peace Accord
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced following a phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump that Moscow is prepared to work with Ukraine on a memorandum outlining the framework for a potential peace agreement. Putin expressed optimism that efforts to end the conflict are on the right track, noting that Russia supports dialogue aimed at resolving the crisis.
Putin highlighted that Russia and the United States agreed to collaborate with Ukraine on defining key principles for settlement, including timelines and the nature of a ceasefire. The two countries plan to specify conditions for a possible peace accord, including ceasefire duration.

This initiative follows recent negotiations in Turkey, where Russia and Ukraine held their first face-to-face talks since March 2022. While Western governments and Ukraine call for an immediate, unconditional ceasefire, Russia emphasizes addressing the root causes of the conflict.
Western leaders, particularly in Europe and the U.S., remain skeptical about Putin’s sincerity, expressing concerns that Russia might negotiate a peace that significantly compromises Ukraine’s territorial integrity and security. Moscow maintains that its actions are responses to Western expansionism and NATO’s encroachment.
The development marks a potentially significant step toward negotiations, though many in the West fear the outcome could favor Russia without ensuring Ukraine’s sovereignty and security.
