Medvedev Calls Trump's WWII Claims 'Pretentious Nonsense'

Dmitry Medvedev, deputy head of Russia's Security Council, on Saturday dismissed U.S. President Donald Trump's claim that the U.S. played the leading role in winning World War II as "pretentious nonsense."

In a Thursday post on Truth Social, Trump stated that the U.S. surpassed all other nations in "strength, bravery, or military brilliance" during both world wars, asserting that America "did more than any other country, by far," to secure victory in WWII.

Medvedev, a vocal critic of the West since Russia's invasion of Ukraine, responded amid efforts by Washington and Moscow to mend strained relations and explore solutions to the ongoing conflict.

"Trump claimed the U.S. made the greatest contribution to WWII victory and plans a special holiday on May 8. A holiday is fine, but his claim is pretentious nonsense," Medvedev wrote on VK. "Our people lost 27 million lives to defeat fascism. Victory Day is ours—May 9, as it was, is, and always will be!"
