Maritime Affairs is gaining traction in Kenya as stakeholders from government, academia, and industry gathered at Tom Mboya University in Homa Bay for the Thematic Week Summit on Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs. Themed “Maji Yetu, Thamani Yetu” (Our Waters, Our Wealth), the summit focuses on innovative and collaborative approaches to harness Kenya’s aquatic resources for economic growth and sustainability in the lake region.
The opening day featured key figures such as Cabinet Secretary Hon. Hassan Ali Joho, Principal Secretary Betsy Njagi, and MPs Peter Kaluma and Adipo Okuome, who led discussions on policy-driven strategies to advance the blue economy. The event also saw the unveiling of new facilities at Achich Beach, distribution of fishing gear to local fishermen, and vibrant lakeside community activities, emphasizing inclusive development.
These initiatives underscore Kenya’s dedication to fostering a sustainable and inclusive blue economy, setting the stage for impactful celebrations ahead of Madaraka Day 2025.
