Israeli Government Responds to Growing International Pressure Over Gaza
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government has pushed back against increased global criticism concerning the ongoing Gaza conflict. As divisions widen within Israel and among international allies, Netanyahu accused European nations like France, Britain, and Canada of “emboldening” Hamas, linking criticism to rising antisemitism.
Speaking at a conference in Jerusalem, Foreign Minister Gideon Saar warned that targeting Israel’s right to self-defense—through bodies like the International Criminal Court—undermines Israel’s security, claiming such actions threaten a “second Holocaust.”
Despite broad support among some countries for Israel’s right to defend itself, there is mounting concern over the scale of devastation in Gaza, where over 54,000 Palestinians have died in one of the deadliest episodes of the conflict. The recent attacks and blockade have also intensified debates within Israel, with many calling for a ceasefire and negotiations for the return of hostages.
Meanwhile, Netanyahu remains firm on continuing his campaign until “complete victory,” amid internal divisions and rising public pressure for a resolution.
