Iran Might Allow U.S. IAEA Inspectors if Nuclear Deal Is Reached
Iran's nuclear chief, Mohammad Eslami, has stated that Iran could permit U.S. inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to visit Iranian nuclear sites if a comprehensive nuclear agreement with Washington is successfully negotiated. According to Eslami, while Iran generally does not allow inspectors from "hostile countries," it might make an exception if the deal ensures mutual trust and transparency.
The ongoing sixth round of talks between Iran and the United States seeks to resolve years-long disputes over Iran's nuclear program. The U.S. has expressed concerns that Iran’s uranium enrichment activities could be a pathway to developing nuclear weapons, whereas Iran insists its nuclear pursuits are solely for civilian use. Iran maintains that enrichment is fundamental to its nuclear industry and considers restrictions akin to banning the establishment of power plants.
