Indonesia Open to Diplomatic Ties with Israel if Palestine Gains Independence, Says Prabowo

Indonesia, the world's largest Muslim-majority country, has expressed willingness to establish diplomatic relations with Israel, but only if the Palestinian state is granted independence. Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto made this statement on Wednesday during a visit alongside French President Emmanuel Macron. Prabowo emphasized that Indonesia’s recognition of Israel would depend on Israel guaranteeing the security needs of the Palestinians and supporting steps toward Palestinian independence.

Currently, Indonesia does not recognize or have diplomatic relations with Israel. The statement reflects the country’s longstanding support for Palestinian statehood and its stance on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The comments also indicate a potential shift in Indonesia's policy, contingent on future developments in Palestine.
