(In Uganda) High Court Nullifies Nalukoola's Election Over Irregularities

The High Court has nullified the election of Nalukoola Elias Luyimbazi as Member of Parliament for Kawempe North.

Justice Bernard Namanya cited electoral irregularities during the March 2025 by-election, including failure to count votes from 14 polling stations and illegal campaigning on polling day.

Nalukoola has filed an appeal, hoping to overturn the judgment and reclaim his seat.

The Electoral Commission confirmed it will not challenge the court’s decision, choosing to wait for the outcome of Nalukoola’s appeal before taking further action.

Nalukoola, who was sworn in on March 26 after winning the by-election triggered by the death of MP Muhammad Ssegirinya, served just two months.

His legal team is now preparing documents for the appeal, which could either reinstate him or lead to a fresh election.
