During the interview, Henke revealed that his steadfast refusal to accept that his son deliberately killed his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, has caused a deep rift in their father-son relationship. Henke told host Piers Morgan that Oscar was “full of fear” during his highly publicized trial and maintained that the facts surrounding Steenkamp’s 2013 murder do not support the guilty verdict handed down to his son. On Valentine's Day 2013, Oscar Pistorius fired four bullets into his 29 year old girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, and called it a "horrific shooting mistake". The Paralympian who was eventually sentenced to 13 years in prison, told the court he thought his model and law graduate partner was an intruder. Oscar Pistorius was released from prison in January 2024 after 9 years of incarceration.
