(In Nigeria) One Year On Remembering Access Bank CEO Herbert Wigwe and Family's Tragic Helicopter Crash

 


Today marks one year since the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of Herbert Wigwe, CEO of Access Bank, his wife, and son.

The three members of the Wigwe family died alongside former Nigerian Exchange Group Plc Chairman, Abimbola Ogunbanjo, and two crew members in a helicopter crash on 9 February 2024 in the United States on their way to attend the 2024 Sunday's Super Bowl LVIII championship in Las Vegas.

A memorial service in honour of Herbert Wigwe, his wife and son, was held today at The Redeemed Christian Church of God, Lion of Judah Parish, located in the family's hometown of Isiokpo, Rivers State.

Herbert Wigwe is trending again because a year and three months after the helicopter crash that claimed the lives of The Access Bank CEO, his wife and son, The The United States National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has released its final report on the cause of the crash.

The report indicated that the helicopter crash which occurred near the California-Nevada border, was caused by avoidable pilot error and company negligence.

The report specifically cited spatial disorientation after the pilot flew into poor weather conditions under visual flight rules (VFR) as reason for the pilot's loss of craft control.
